Who is Rob Zombie?

Rob Zombie is a Massachusetts-born American musician and filmmaker. He recorded four studio albums with White Zombie, a heavy metal band he helped form.

Spider One, the lead vocalist for the American rock group Powerman 5000, is his older brother.

After White Zombie broke up in 1998, Zombie went on to have a successful solo career, scoring singles including “Living Dead Girl” and “Dragula.” His trademark technique of using pop culture and horror movie allusions in his music has won him a devoted following.

In the 2000s, Zombie took up directing horror movies, which reflected the ghoulish style of his songs. “House of 1000 Corpses,” his directorial debut, and “The Devil’s Rejects,” its follow-up, have subsequently gained cult status. His passion for horror also inspired him to reimagine the classic horror movie “Halloween” in 2007, solidifying his reputation in the field.

Main Career

He was a founding member of the American heavy metal music group “White Zombie” in 1985. When they first released their extended plays, they were not well received commercially. He contributed to the production and composition of “White Zombie’s” debut album, “Soul-Crusher,” in November 1987.

“White Zombie” released their second studio album, “Make Them Die Slowly,” in 1989, however, it was a commercial failure. The group also released the extended play “God of Thunder” in that same year.

One of White Zombie’s earliest remix albums, “Super Sexy Swingin’ Sounds,” was released in 1996. Two years later, the band broke up. In 1997, he began working on his solo project in the meantime.

His fourth album, “Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool,” was released on February 2, 2010. He directed ‘CSI: Miami’s’ season 8 episode 16 in the same year.

In 2013, he released “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor,” his fifth studio album. “Teenage Nosferatu Pussy” and “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown” were two of the album’s tunes.

Early Life

Robert Bartleh Cummings, better known as Rob Zombie, was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on January 12, 1965. Michael David Cummings, the younger brother of the musician, would go on to become the lead singer of the rock group Powerman 5000, a role he would subsequently assume as Spider One. Rob’s childhood obsessions with performance art musicians like Alice Cooper and horror films would undoubtedly have an impact on his mature creative growth.

He enrolled in classes at Parsons School of Design following his high school graduation. He was employed as a production assistant on the television program Pee-wee’s Playhouse in addition to his free-time musical pursuits. He met Sean Yseult, the future co-founder of White Zombie, while attending Parsons. After splitting up, they continued to collaborate in the band despite their brief relationship.

Directorial Work

Rob wrote and directed the picture House of 1000 Corpses in 2003; it went on to make $17 million worldwide and launched a successful franchise. He directed The Devil’s Rejects in 2005, a follow-up to the first movie that received comparatively positive reviews from both fans and reviewers. He then went on to direct Halloween in 2007 and Halloween II in 2009. In 2007, Zombie was one of several directors chosen to participate in the genre anthology film Grindhouse, directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Zombie directed the brief fake trailer for a fictional movie called Werewolf Women of the SS.

With the release of Lords of Salem in 2012, Zombie received some of the strongest reviews of his career. Then, four years later, he released 31, a horror film, as his follow-up. Zombie has made at least one attempt to venture outside of the horror genre, despite his almost exclusive interest in it for both his music and films. In the summer of 2015, it was announced that he would direct Raised Eyebrows, a biopic about well-known comedian Groucho Marx (whose character names appear frequently in Zombie’s films). However, no release date was given, and the project seems to have stalled. He directed House of 1000 Corpses: 3 from Hell, the first film of what has become known as the Firefly trilogy, in 2019. In addition to directing feature films, Zombie also directed a stand-up comedy special called Tom Papa: Live in New York City and one episode of CSI: Miami.

Other Projects

For whatever reason, zombies have appeared as voice actors in James Gunn films since Slither in 2006. The Guardians of the Galaxy and Super movies both include his uncredited voice. In addition, he provided the voices for Mr. Pickles (2016) and Justice League and Spider-Man: The New Animated Series in 2003 and 2016. Additionally, Zombie has penned several brief comic book series.

Real Estate

Rob spent $1.8 million buying a house in Los Angeles in 1999. 2014 saw him sell this home for $3.555 million. He paid $2.5 million for a house in the Hollywood Hills in 2016. Rob and Sheri Moon Zombie also own a home in Woodbury, Connecticut, that is 5,000 square feet in size.
