The legendary musician from the Beatles, Paul McCartney has come a way through. He has experienced being in the spotlight since a very young age. Almost everything he does went viral quickly, and that’s how you identify a world icon.
McCartney’s musical career has always been public and so does his love life. Although he gained huge success in the Beatles, his love life had ups and downs. He has married three times to this day.
Paul McCartney married Linda Eastwood at first who sadly passed away in 1998. Later, Paul fell in love with Heater Mills and they divorced in 2008. Finally, Paul McCartney is living happily with his third wife Nancy Shevell.
Paul McCartney and Linda Eastwood (1969 – 1995)
In 2008 McCartney told us a little story about how he encountered Linda at first. Paul said, “There was an immediate attraction between us,” when they met each other in the London nightclub Bag O’ Nails.
McCartney then asked her once they got a little close. “I think she probably recognized me. It was so corny, but I told the kids later that, had it not been for that moment, none of them would be here,” he wrote in The Sunday Magazine.
When they first met each other Paul was only 24 and Lind was a year older than him. Paul and Lind had their own friend group and both of them attended the concert with their group then suddenly Linda passed Paul’s table.
“I stood up just as she was passing, blocking her exit. And so I said, ‘Oh, sorry. Hi. How are you? How’re you doing?’” Paul says in Barry Miles’ biography Paul McCartney: Many Years from Now.
Linda had a daughter with her previous husband Joseph Lee. They were married from 1962 to 1965 and had a daughter together. To look after her, Linda went back to US. Meanwhile, Paul got engaged with his girlfriend of the time, Jane Asher, but things didn’t last for long.
Suddenly in 1968 Linda and Paul met each other once more. The Beatles were in New York at that time, and from then the two officially started to date each other. Paul then embraced her daughter and welcomed her to live together with him in London. After a year of dating, McCartney proposed to Linda.
When Did Paul Married Linda?
A year later, McCartney and Linda tied the knot at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London, on March 12, 1969. Well the scene of them was really gorgeous but they had some ups and downs before the marriage.
“We had a big argument the night before we got married and it was nearly called off,” McCartney said in Barry Miles‘ book Many Years From Now. “We were very up and down, quite funky compared to the eventual image of ‘Twenty-five years of married bliss! Aren’t they lucky for people in showbiz?’ But we are.”
During his wedding, his bandmates were nowhere to be seen, he then explains that everyone was pissed off at that moment. ““I really don’t remember whether or not I invited any of the band to the wedding,” he said in Many Years From Now. “Why not? I’m a total bastard, I suppose–I don’t know, really.”
“Maybe it was because the group was breaking up. We were all pissed off with each other. We certainly weren’t a gang any more. That was the thing. Once a group’s broken up like that, that’s it,” he added.
What Happened to Linda?
Paul and Linda were in a happy relationship, but suddenly on April 14, 1998, Linda died due to breast cancer at the age of 56. Their marriage lasted for three decades and they even had three kids together, Mary McCartney (1969), Stella McCartney (1971), and James McCartney (1977).
Paul remembered his happy moments with Linda in Many Years From Now, “You get this picture of us swanning along in a little rowboat managing to avoid the white water, but we were right in the middle of that white water, man, so it’s even more miraculous that we made it. But we did.”
In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland in 2019, Paul expressed his grief at the loss of his mother and wife. “I think I cried for about a year on and off,” he said. “You expect to see them walk in, this person you love, because you are so used to them. I cried a lot.”
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills (2002 – 2008)
Piers Morgan, an English broadcaster introduced Paul and Heather. They had their first encounter at the Pride of Britain Awards in London in May 1999.
They had a great age gap, when they had their first encounter Paul was 56, and Heather was 31, there were 25 years of age gap between the pair. Nevertheless, the couple decided to marry each other on June 11, 2002, in Ireland, Glaslough.
“The ceremony was joyful and moving,” “said Paul’s spokesman, Geoff Baker. “Heather captured the hearts of the congregation when, overcome by the emotion of the occasion, she briefly faltered and wept tears of joy whilst making her vows.”
Did Paul and Heather did divorce?
Well, the happy moments between Paul and Heather didn’t last for long and the couple ultimately got separated in 2006 and their divorce was finalized in 2008.
Since Heather was a former model and McCartney was a world-class musician, both of them were very popular, and the news of their divorce also came into the spotlight. The pair divorced in a joint statement, and they explained that it became very difficult for them to maintain a marriage in the public eye.
“Having tried exceptionally hard to make our relationship work given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways,” the statement read.
It continues, “Our parting is amicable and both of us still care about each other very much but have found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives, and we have actively tried to protect the privacy of our child.”
The divorce impacted Paul’s fortune in a vile After a numerous amount of hectic court battles, Paul had to pay Heather $48.7 million. In April 2023, Pamela Cockerill (a friend of Heather’s) was welcomed by Channel 5 for a program called The Trials of Heather Mills where she shared about Heather’s experience with Paul McCartney.
“I think Heather found it quite hard to live in the same house that, only a couple of years before, Linda had been living in,” she said.
“And the house hadn’t been changed that much. [Linda] was an inescapable presence because obviously, she was a big part of Paul’s life.” She continued: “Little plaques were saying ‘I love Linda’ over the doorways and photos of her around.”
Even Howard Stones, the writer of Fab: An Intimate Life of Paul McCartney, expressed his few words on the topic,
“I’m sure it must have been very difficult for Heather to move into the life of a man who had been famously happily married for years,” he said. “They had children together and I’m sure he was still in love with Linda. He probably hadn’t got over it. He kept Linda’s ring on until the day before he married Heather.”
Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell (2011– Now)
Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell have been together since 2011. Nancy is an American businesswoman who was also a former member of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
She is currently the vice president of her family business, New England Motor Freight. Paul and Nancy met each other in 2007 while the divorce between Paul and Heather was still ongoing.
When they first met each other Paul was 65 and Nancy was 48, the pair had a 17-year-age gap. After the divorce between him and Heather was finally approved, Paul went back to Nancy to Antigua and resided in Jumbay Bay at a private resort.
Paul also revealed that they for close to each other due to their mutual love for dancing. “There’s no denying it, I really enjoy dancing,” he wrote. “It’s something my wife Nancy and I are particularly keen on. After a show, when the band and crew get together for a drink, we’re always the first ones on the dance floor.”
“The piano was sitting in the foyer all day long, and because the rain would not stop, I sometimes went and just noodled on the keys,” he wrote.
“I was thinking all sorts of loving thoughts towards Nancy, and while I was at the piano, I could see that the waiters who were clearing up were listening. It was nice and romantic. It was a perfect moment, and I thought to myself, we’re not going to stay in separate rooms tonight.”
An observer said about the pair to PEOPLE, “There were definitely sparks between them, they seem to be having a very happy and relaxed time together in paradise. They seem not to have a care in the world.”
When did Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell get married?
Paul worked with Neil Lane, the famous jeweler, to make an engagement ring for Nancy. The ring was made with a 5-plus-carat diamond in a platinum, Art Deco-style setting.
“He was very excited and very serious about finding the right one because he wanted something truly exceptional,” Neil said. The pair didn’t announce their engagement news to the public. The pair eventually tied the knot on October 9, 2011.
They did a simple ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London. This place showers McCartney with memories since its the place where Paul and his late wife married in 1969.
Paul shares his experience as a husband and father in his blog post in January 203, “When it comes to being a husband… I see it as just trying to be good to my wife Nancy and trying to be considerate and romantic,” he said.
“I completely overdo Valentine’s Day! I mean, there’s not just one card, there are cards hidden around the room, and sometimes things even spill into the next day – it’s completely silly. If there’s an excuse to have some fun, I overdo it!”
