Mick Jagger has been in the music industry for over six decades. He has seen the evolution of Rock and Roll and his music holds so much power that his opinion players a huge impact in the rock community.
Jagger isn’t afraid to pull the trigger like Keith Richards. He isn’t afraid to point out the things he hates and doesn’t care what others think. “Oh God, Aerosmith, they’re just rubbish – absolute bullshit,” Mick told about Aerosmith.
Mick also stated that The Clash were “repeats.” Jagger has been open with his feelings about the bands. However, he has also given some good comments to a few bands. In 2007, he talked about the bands that he liked with BBC and stated that these bands would maintain a long career like The Rolling Stones themselves.
The Bands that Mick Jagger like
Green Day
Coming first on the list was the American Punk group led by Billie Joe Armstrong on vocals and guitarist, Mike Dirnt on the bass, and Tré Cool on the drums.
The band was formed back in 1987 by Billie and Mike and Cool joined the group three years later in 1990. Greenday rose to popularity in 1990 with their debut album ‘Dookie’ which included the hit songs, “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around”.
During the interview with BBC, Jagger told that Greenday were going to “last forever.” “I don’t know if any of those bands are really going to last forever. Because I don’t know if they really want to. They might just want to be musicians in another form. Not everyone wants to stay together as a band,” Jagger said.
Just like Jagger said Greenday is still one of the biggest punk rock groups in the world. They have sold over 75 million records worldwide and are considered as the godfathers of Pop Punk.
Kings of Leon
The other band that Mick mentioned was Kings of Leon. Kings of Leon was formed in 1999 by brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill.
Kings of Leon weren’t as popular as they are right now. They only rose to popularity in Septemeber 2008 after the release of “Only by the Night” which included hit singles such as “Sex On Fire”, “Use Somebody”, and “Notion”
Two years after when Kings of Leon became famous, Jagger talked about the group with Absolute Radio in 2008, ” The Kings Of Leon at the beginning, they didn’t really do that successfully,” he said.
“But everyone has to do it in the end. Because otherwise, it becomes kind of embarrassing, being in a room when you’re not really connecting. But now they play arenas and they’re really good and they’re much more forthcoming. They still have their shy moments, but they seem to have cut down,” Mick Jagger said.
Mick Jagger was also there when Kings of Leon played live and it was truly a surreal moment for the group to see a rock icon attending their performance. Caleb Followill recalled the moment with BBC in 2021 and this reaction was ‘Holy Crap’.
“It was very distracting because we were playing the show and there were a few empty seats up top. Then before you know it, it’s Mick sitting there and banging his arms on the balcony and dancing. we were all looking at each other like, ‘Holy crap. This is very surreal.’ I started shaking my hips a little more. Yep, I definitely did some dancing that I hadn’t done before,” Followill said.
