The Rolling Stones was formed seven decades ago in 1962 by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. If you’ve listened to the songs from their era to this day, no wonder you’re playlist must sound heavenly. Mick and Keith are one of the longest-running musicians and their band Rolling Stones.
With Richards’ epic guitar work and Mick’s vocals, the Rolling Stones became unstoppable. Throughout their career, they’ve released 31 studio albums, and have sold over 200 million records worldwide. They have released multiple masterpiece albums and it’s very hard for most of the fans to pick a favorite one.
If we asked Keith Richards what his favorite Rolling Stones album is, that would definitely be challenging for him, but when the same question was asked, he had an answer.
Keith Richards’ favorite Rolling Stones album
Keith Richards is always about his opinions on albums. He always lets the audience know about his thoughts on the group’s album. During an interview with GQ in 2020, he talked about the Rolling Stones album that he liked the most.
This wasn’t an easy task for Richards. He named five of the records that he liked the most then and eventually he named his favorite Rolling Stones album which was 1972, “Exile on Main Street.”
“Always hard to pick favorites. I would go anywhere between Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed, Exile on Main St. I will go also to Bridges to Babylon, which is, I think, much underrated. But I mean, that’s when we were hitting our stuff. It was easy because we were working at home,” he said.
Keith adds, “We were still not thrown out of the country and having to duck and dive. So it was easier to work then because we weren’t exiles, but in actual fact, I really hate to pick out favorite things. Because they’ve all got something on them that is special to me.”
“Quite honestly I love them all, some a little more than others. I think Steel Wheels was damn good, and Voodoo Lounge too. But then, there’s so many. I mean, I can’t do that. I’ll stick with my original: Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet, and Exile on Main Street. I’ll cut it down for you. Exile on Main Street,” Keith Richards said.
Keith’s favorite song from “Exile On Main Street”
We can all agree that Exile on Main Street is a great album, but what is his favorite song from it? The 1972 album consists of multiple masterpieces like Rip This Joint, Rocks Off, Tumbling Dice, and many more.
During an interview with the audience in 2004, Keith revealed his favorite track from the album and we can guess which it was… It was ‘Tumbling Dice’ indeed. “It’s a long album, it’s a big album. It’s always very difficult for me to pick out one baby from the other. You should try to play ‘Rip This Joint’ that’s one of the fastest songs in the world. (It) really keeps you on your toes. But ‘Tumbling Dice’ has always been a favorite for me from there.”
Richards added. “I could play it all night, it’s got such a nice groove and a flow on it. But in all down the line ‘Ventilator Blues’ and ‘I Just Want to See His Face’. You know, because when I start, I’ll name them all. They’re all my favorites.”
