Jon Bon Jovi rose to popularity in 1968 with his hit single “Runaway” which peaked at the Top 40. Moreover, his band Bon Jovi also became popular with tracks such as “It’s My Life”, “Bed of Roses”, and “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
With the band, Jon sold over 120 million records worldwide. Throughout his career, he has shared stage with many artists and talked about multiple musicians who influenced him, but in 2010 Jon Bon Jovi was asked who his favorite rock star was, he had one name.
Jon Bon Jovi’s Favorite Rock Star
Back in 2010, during an interview with Time Out Dubai, he was asked about his favorite Rock Star after him, and he gave one name: Elton John. “Elton John… greatest guy in the biz. Elton loves music. He buys records every week, he encourages young artists, he has taken more than one and made them into stars,” he said.
“Can you imagine getting a call when you’re some nobody kid named James Blunt five years ago. (Elton was) going ‘Hi, it’s Elton John, I want to help you.’ You’d probably just s*** yourself,’ Jon added.
Elton John found success in 1968 with his first British recording “Lady Samantha”. Right now, he’s one of the most successful musicians with over 300 million records sold worldwide. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and recently declared retirement from touring in 2023.
Both of these artists were great friends of each other and there was even a moment when Elton John played on Jon’s solo album.
Just like Robert Plant, Elton doesn’t keep his music taste limited. he likes to enjoy new music taste and find new artists and even love to include new artists in his music, and Bon Jovi is just another prime example of that.
Back in 1990, Bon Jovi recorded his first solo album, ‘Blaze Of Glory’ and it was the same year when Warner Bros released “Young Guns II” and Jovi recorded the track for the movie with the same named track “Young Guns II.”
In an interview with ‘The Howard Stern Show’, he talked about the track “Young Guns II” and also talked about how John Elton agreed to join the album.
“I simply asked him. We had met a couple of times. At that junction he just happened to be in L.A. He came over and he played on a song. Elton said: ‘Do you want me to sing on it as well?’” Jon said. “I said: ‘Uh, yes please’. So he sang in a song called ‘Dyin’ Ain’t Much of a Livin’. He plays the piano, when I needed a great piano player Elton came in.
