Peter Gabriel has introduced a new song, “Till Your Mind Is Shining,” giving listeners another preview of his forthcoming album o/i. Continuing the rollout style he embraced with i/o, Gabriel is releasing tracks gradually, timing each one with the phases of the moon.
This latest single stands apart within the project for its relative simplicity. Gabriel himself describes it as the most approachable piece on the album, calling it “the closest I get to a pop song on this record.”
The track originated from a playful chord progression that caught his attention. As he worked with it, the idea slowly expanded into a complete composition. That process, Gabriel noted, reminded him of his earliest days as a musician—long before international recognition—when he and his peers focused on crafting straightforward pop and soul songs.
That sense of nostalgia helped shape the song’s character. While Gabriel is widely known for intricate, atmospheric work, “Till Your Mind Is Shining” leans into a lighter, more melodic feel. Its accessible structure reflects the musical influences that first sparked his passion for songwriting.
Beneath its inviting sound, however, the song carries a deeper theme. Gabriel continues his long-standing exploration of human consciousness, encouraging listeners to reflect inward and develop a greater awareness of themselves and the world. The message suggests that deeper understanding can lead to more thoughtful and compassionate choices.

Visually, the song is paired with artwork by Japanese artist Tatsuo Miyajima. Gabriel was drawn to the piece’s futuristic blend of numbers, data, and human imagery—an aesthetic that mirrors the song’s themes of balancing inner awareness with an increasingly technological world.
He also linked the artwork to his visits to Hiroshima and conversations with atomic bomb survivors—experiences that left a lasting impact on him and reinforced the importance of memory, empathy, and responsibility.
As o/i continues to unfold one track at a time, “Till Your Mind Is Shining” adds a thoughtful yet accessible layer to the project—blending Gabriel’s signature introspection with a rare pop sensibility, and showing that his creative evolution is far from over.
