When Green Day was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame every rock fan felt accomplished with their life. Their name was inducted alongside some iconic bands; Guns N’ Roses and The Beatles.
The moment was massive for every Green Day fan and the band themselves since they were the first modern punk rock band to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
When the Green day made their acceptance speech, everyone went to tears specially Tre Cool, the drummer of Green Day. “I didn’t think back then that we’d be here now, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” He said, and thanked the fans, “Green Day Idiot Nation, thank you, we love you.”
Even Cool gave a heartwarming speech, “music is the the force that gets us up in the morning, and it’s also the shit that keeps us up at night. We’re all in this room together to celebrate music and it’s a beautiful thing. It’s overwhelming, the amount of talent and love in the room. It’s overwhelming.”
Mike Dirnt carried the mic and made everyone sob again with his speech; “every one of our fans and the Green Day Nation, this is much more about you guys than it is about me and I’m very proud to share this life on Earth with you.” Then he thanked everyone and made all of us cry, “Last but not least: to my two brothers behind me onstage here. Believe me, it’s been way too many years to want to count. I love you guys, I’ll see you at band practice.”
Then, as usual, Billi Joe carried the speech in his punk way. Joe thanked all his bandmates and even called Dirnt his “soulmate.” Joe closed his speech by expressing his love for Rock & Roll, “You know, I’ve always loved rock and roll music. I always have. Soon as I opened my eyes and took my first breath, I’m a fan. And that’s the one thing that I’m going to close with is that I love rock and roll.”
Green Day performs the iconic song “Basket Case”
After their heartwarming speech, the band celebrated their moment with a band. They performed their iconic song “Basket Case” from their record-breaking third album. “Dookie.”
“Dookie” has been a record-breaking album for the band. The album consists of songs including, “When I Come Around”, “Welcome TO Paradise”, and “Basket Case.” Although their songs were a banger, they had difficulty making record sales in the late 90s.
In 2004, the band was alive again and went to the mainstream of music again with “American Idiot.” The song captured fans’ hearts and they were soon dedicated to rock legends. Their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame became more special with their performance of “Basket Case.”
If we take a look at the chart, “Basket Case” remains one of their most-viewed songs with over 348 million views. Their performance at the Hall of Fame alone has gathered 16 million views.
Billie Joe takes out his iconic guitar “Blue” which was featured in their music video of “Basket Case” in 1994. Bleu holds many memories of the band, it reminds them of their rebellious period, and the moment they started to make the mainstream of Rock & Roll.
Green Day still manages to raise the spirit of the upcoming generation and influences the new era with its 90s punk music. We will always be proud of Green Day and the achievements they have accomplished in their period.
