Don Henley believes Eagles will call it quits in 2026

After more than 55 years of music, touring, and unforgettable songs, legendary rock band The Eagles may finally be preparing to say goodbye. In a recent interview, founding member Don Henley shared that 2026 could be the band’s final year.

For fans around the world, this news feels like the end of an era.

A Long and Historic Journey

The Eagles formed in 1971 and quickly became one of the biggest rock bands in history. With classic songs like Hotel California, Take It Easy, and Desperado, they created music that has lasted for generations. Their album Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) is one of the best-selling albums of all time in the United States.

Over the decades, the band has gone through breakups, reunions, and lineup changes. Still, they always found a way to return to the stage and continue performing for their loyal fans.

Now, more than five decades later, the band members are reflecting on their incredible journey.

Don Henley Speaks Honestly

In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Don Henley said, “I think this year will probably be it.” He admitted he has said similar things before, but this time it feels more real.

Henley, along with bandmates Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, is now 78 years old. He openly talked about how age and health play a role in their decision. Touring is demanding, and after so many years on the road, it makes sense that they are thinking about slowing down.

Henley said the band has had an “extraordinary run” and left behind “a lot of good memories and some good music.” He also shared that he feels at peace with the idea of ending this chapter.

Their Final Performances

The Eagles are currently performing a record-breaking 56-night residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. This high-tech venue has given fans a special way to experience the band’s music one more time. The residency is scheduled to end on March 28, 2026.

After that, their only announced show is at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 2, 2026. That performance could become one of the most emotional moments in the band’s history if it truly is their last.

Their most recent UK concerts were in summer 2024, when they played a five-night residency at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena.

Life After the Eagles

Don Henley also shared what he hopes to do after retirement. He wants to spend more time with his family and focus on simple pleasures, like growing vegetables. He said that although he has traveled all over the world, he mostly saw airports, hotels, and venues. Now, he would like to actually explore places and enjoy them at a slower pace.

Henley explained that he does not want to live a “one-dimensional life.” Music has been wonderful, but there are other parts of life he wants to experience more fully.

The Legacy They Leave Behind

If 2026 truly is the end, The Eagles will leave behind one of the greatest legacies in rock history. Their harmonies, songwriting, and timeless sound helped shape American rock music. Millions of fans still listen to their songs every day.

While it is always sad to imagine such a legendary band stepping away, it is also important to celebrate what they have achieved. Few bands last this long. Even fewer remain this influential.

Whether or not 2026 becomes their final year, one thing is certain: The Eagles’ music will continue to live on for many years to come.
