Alex Lifeson’s New Band ‘Envy of None’ Drops New Single

Alex Lifeson, best known as the guitarist of Rush, has been pushing musical boundaries with his current band, Envy of None. Their latest release, The Thrill, is a digital three-track single that reimagines the song “Thrill of the Chase” in multiple ways. The track originally appeared on their sophomore album Stygian Wavz, which debuted in March.

The collection includes the album version of “Thrill of the Chase,” an early demo titled “The Chase,” and an alternate mix called simply “The Thrill.” All three variations are now available across streaming platforms and digital download services, offering fans a new perspective on one of the band’s standout songs.

Curran explained how “Thrill of the Chase” developed:

“It was one of the last tracks we finished before delivering the record. Alf had this funky demo, and Maiah was immediately enthusiastic about it. She and I both felt the album needed an uptempo moment, and despite its left-of-center feel, it worked perfectly. It had this funky, upbeat energy that we loved exploring, especially the dance-party outro.”

Annibalini echoed the sentiment, adding:

“At first it felt like an unusual choice for the album, but when Maiah added her vocals, everything clicked. It suddenly felt like Envy of None had stepped into something new yet familiar. And for fun, the remix even includes a cowbell!”

Charity Vinyl and Special Editions

To accompany the digital release, the band announced a limited-edition 12-inch colored vinyl of The Thrill, arriving November 1. All proceeds will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support communities displaced by the war in Ukraine.

Pricing tiers include:

Standard edition: $50

Autographed copy: $100

Deluxe package: $1,000, which includes a signed vinyl plus a private 30-minute Zoom call with the band.

Pre-orders are available now through Envy of None’s official store.

A Playful Music Video

Alongside the release, Envy of None premiered an official animated video for “The Thrill.” In it, puppet versions of the band members spring into action when a cosmic villain, Capt. Rupert McNebula, threatens music itself. The story takes them on a global chase that ends in a frozen wasteland, where they vanquish the alien with the power of their performance. The finale finds them dancing triumphantly outside New York’s legendary Studio 54.

Creativity Meets Purpose

With The Thrill, Envy of None showcase not only their inventiveness as musicians but also their commitment to a greater cause. The mix of reimagined tracks, a playful visual story, and a charity-driven vinyl release makes this project more than just another single—it’s a celebration of music, collaboration, and compassion.
