It has been nearly a year since Aerosmith officially retired from touring, but the band’s story may not be completely over. While the legendary rock group has stepped away from life on the road, guitarist Joe Perry has recently suggested that fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
Aerosmith announced their touring retirement on August 2, 2024, following serious health issues faced by frontman Steven Tyler. In September 2023, Tyler fractured his larynx during a live performance, forcing the band to stop their highly anticipated “Peace Out” farewell tour after only three shows. Their last full concert took place on September 9, 2023, in Elmont, New York.
At the time, the decision felt final. The band made it clear that touring was no longer possible. But almost a year later, Joe Perry’s words suggest there may still be something special ahead.
Joe Perry Leaves the Door Open
In a recent radio interview, Perry spoke honestly about the band’s current situation. He confirmed that Aerosmith’s touring days are over, but he didn’t completely rule out the idea of performing together again.
“We’re all flesh and blood,” Perry said. “At some point, I think we will all be on the same stage again.”
While he didn’t promise anything, his tone was hopeful. Perry explained that the band members are still in regular contact and that they continue to talk often. For longtime fans, that alone is enough to keep hope alive.
Steven Tyler Is Still Singing
Even though Tyler can’t handle the demands of a full tour, he hasn’t disappeared from the music scene. Recently, he joined an all-star lineup at Black Sabbath’s “Back To The Beginning” charity concert, where he performed several classic songs. His appearance reminded everyone that his passion and stage presence are still very much alive.
Tyler has also shared the stage with Perry again at a private charity event for Janie’s Fund, the organization Tyler founded to help girls and young women who have experienced trauma. This performance marked the first time the two Aerosmith legends played together in nearly two years.
Why Touring Is So Hard Now
Joe Perry has been very open about the physical and emotional toll of touring, especially at their age. What was once exciting and energizing can now be exhausting.
“When you’re younger, you can bounce back easily,” Perry explained. “But when you get older, every show takes more out of you.”
That reality is a big reason why Aerosmith decided to step away from long tours. It wasn’t about losing love for the music — it was about protecting their health.
Life After Aerosmith Touring
For now, Perry is focusing on The Joe Perry Project, which is set to tour with a powerful lineup of rock musicians. Meanwhile, Aerosmith continues to stay connected through special events, charity work, and conversations about the future.
So, Is There Hope for One Last Show?
There are no official plans, but there is still hope. A full tour is unlikely, but a single special performance — perhaps for charity or a major event — feels possible.
As Joe Perry said, he always plays like every show might be the last. And maybe, one day, Aerosmith will give fans one final night to celebrate the music, the memories, and a legendary career.
