The Rolling Stones clear Fatboy Slim sample after 25 years – listen to ‘Satisfaction Skank’

After more than 25 years, The Rolling Stones have officially cleared Fatboy Slim’s long-bootlegged mashup of ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ and ‘The Rockafeller Skank’.

Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, originally created the track around the year 2000 as a special encore for his live shows. Using the famous Stones riff and vocals, it quickly became a fan favourite, but despite its popularity, Cook was never able to release it officially due to sample clearance issues.

Although Mick Jagger reportedly liked the mix, the band’s management repeatedly blocked its release for over two decades. Earlier this year, however, The Rolling Stones themselves had a change of heart and personally approved the sample. They even supplied Cook with the original master tapes so he could produce a high-quality version.

The track, titled ‘Satisfaction Skank’, has now been officially released, bringing an end to one of dance music’s most famous unreleased bootlegs.

The move echoes the band’s earlier goodwill gesture in 2019, when Mick Jagger and Keith Richards handed full royalties and songwriting credit for The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ back to Richard Ashcroft.
