Zakk Wylde has opened up about a touching and emotional story involving his longtime friend and bandmate, the late Ozzy Osbourne. In a recent interview with NJ.com, Wylde shared that before his death, Ozzy wanted to make one last album with him — a project that sadly never happened.
Wylde, who joined Ozzy’s band back in 1987 as lead guitarist, said Ozzy texted him not long before his passing, talking about doing another record together. According to Wylde, Ozzy told him:
“Zakk, let’s do another record. Because I really loved it when you were going through your Allman Brothers [and] Lynyrd Skynyrd phase when we did No More Tears. It’s heavy, but it’s more melodic. It’s not pummeling heavy.”
Wylde simply replied, “All right, Oz. Whatever you want.” Unfortunately, the plan never came to life, as Ozzy passed away before they could begin working on it.
A Long Friendship in Metal
Zakk Wylde and Ozzy Osbourne’s friendship goes back nearly four decades. Wylde played on several of Ozzy’s most famous albums, including No More Tears and Ozzmosis, and even joined him for the Patient Number 9 album in 2022. Their musical chemistry helped shape some of the most iconic songs in modern heavy metal.
Beyond music, they shared a deep bond that went far beyond the stage. Zakk often referred to Ozzy as a brother figure — someone who gave him life-changing opportunities and constant inspiration.
The Last Time They Spoke
Wylde last saw Ozzy at the Back to the Beginning concert on July 5th. It was a busy night, filled with fans, family, and friends. Zakk said he didn’t get the chance to properly say goodbye, assuming he would see Ozzy the next day.
