On June 14, 2025, rock fans in Champaign, Illinois got a very special treat. REO Speedwagon returned to their hometown for a one-night-only performance at the State Farm Center. The show brought together past and present members of the band, including Bruce Hall, Neal Doughty, Alan Gratzer, Terry Luttrell, Mike Murphy, and Steve Scorfina. Surprisingly, frontman Kevin Cronin couldn’t attend due to prior commitments.
The night was full of nostalgia and emotion. For the first time in 37 years, drummer Alan Gratzer played REO songs live, while the band honored late members Gary Richrath and Gregg Philbin. Richrath’s son, Eric, even flew in from Scotland to receive a plaque celebrating his father’s contributions to the band.
Bassist Bruce Hall shared his thoughts with the audience: “As hard as it’s all been for everybody … I think these songs belong to all of us. In order to be here together in Champaign, where the band started.”
The performance wasn’t just about music—it was also a farewell. Proceeds from the concert went to the REO Speedwagon Foundation to support cancer research. Fans were treated to some of the band’s most famous songs, including:
