The 1975 Singer Calls Metallica The “Worst” Band Of All-Time

Matty Healy, frontman of The 1975, hasn’t held back when it comes to sharing his feelings about certain legendary acts. In a recent interview, he was asked about artists featured on the Stranger Things soundtrack—namely Kate Bush and Metallica. While he praised Bush, his response to Metallica was brutally blunt:

“I f***ing hate Metallica. They’re my worst band of all time.”

Healy didn’t go into detail about why he feels so strongly, though this isn’t the first time he’s made the claim. Back in 2020, on his podcast with The Face, he admitted he had always been a fan of heavy music but could never connect with Metallica’s sound.

Instead, Healy highlighted other groups he admires, such as Converge, Glassjaw, Poison the Well, and Swedish hardcore icons Refused—whom he called his favorite heavy band ever. He even revealed he once joined the AFI fan club.

While The 1975 continue to dominate charts—scoring their sixth straight UK No. 1 album with Being Funny in a Foreign Language—the comparison to Metallica is a stark one. Metallica’s legacy includes more than 125 million albums sold worldwide, proving their place in rock history, whether Healy’s a fan or not.
