Legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks has sent shockwaves through the music world with a fiery and candid revelation: she is officially working on her first solo album in 14 years — and it’s going to be deeply personal.
The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman, now 76, confirmed in an interview on Tuesday that the as-yet-untitled album is in the early stages of production, marking her first major solo project since 2011’s In Your Dreams. And if her comments are anything to go by, fans should brace for some lyrical fireworks.
“This album is a diary,” Nicks said. “A lot of it is about people I’ve loved, people I’ve lost, and a few songs that might make some of my exes a little nervous. But that’s what I do — I tell stories.”
Known for her mystical lyrics and haunting melodies, Nicks didn’t hold back when asked about why it took over a decade to return to the studio. “Let’s be honest, I got tired of waiting around for the rest of Fleetwood Mac,” she said with a laugh. “They’re a bunch of lazy bums now — I still have songs to sing.”
Nicks added that while the band’s tumultuous history is well documented, there’s no bad blood — “just inertia.” “I love them all, but I needed to keep moving creatively. If that means going it alone, so be it.”
The new album is expected to blend her classic ethereal rock sound with modern production and feature several surprise collaborators — some from today’s chart-toppers and a few “old souls,” as she cryptically teased.
While a release date hasn’t been announced, Nicks promised fans a sneak peek later this year with the drop of a lead single. “It’s got the bite of ‘Edge of Seventeen’ but the heart of ‘Landslide,’” she hinted.
After years of anticipation, it looks like the white-winged dove is ready to soar once more.
