On October 12, 2018, at Foo Fighters’ performance in Kansas City, Missouri, ten-year-old Collier Cash Rule came on stage to join the band for a rendition of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
In footage captured by fans, Grohl is seen asking the young man, Collier, if he is good with the guitar. The frontman of Foos inquired, “What do you know?” after he answered in the affirmative. Collier responds, “I know a lot of Metallica songs,” to that.
Grohl and the other members of the Foos then join in as the child starts playing the first riff from “Enter Sandman.”
Below is the video of the event that you can watch.
Grohl interrupted the band in the middle of the song and asked the fan if they knew anything more. In response, the fan started playing Metallica’s “Welcome Home (Sanitarium).”
“He ain’t got nothing on Collier,” Grohl said later in the concert in reference to Ed Sheeran’s performance that evening in the same city.
Subsequently, Grohl gave the young admirer his own guitar, making light of the fact that the Foo’s tour was almost finished and said, “I’m gonna find you, Collier, if I see that shit on eBay next week.”
A relative of Collier also wrote on Reddit, “Dave brought my 10yo nephew up on stage last night in Kansas City and he killed it! He stayed up all night playing that guitar. He’s on cloud 9!”
